Miramichi

Miramichi was amalgamated from the towns of Newcastle, Chatham, and outlying communities. It spans the Miramichi River.

Railroad action in Miramichi takes place in these two areas:

  • NBEC's Miramichi yard (including the VIA station)
  • Ultramar bulk fuel depot

The Miramichi yard was fairly busy until the UPM-Kymmene shutdown. However, one can usually see some NBEC motive power there.

The former UPM-Kymmene (former Repap) mill in Miramichi (former Newcastle)
owned one locomotive, #711 (an SW1200RS, formerly CN 1376).

Ultramar bulk fuel depot, Chatham

Note the CN tank train here. 17-car trains are brought here and
unloaded in 3-4 hours.
