The Central Railway Company (CRofNB) was chartered in 1871 to build a railroad from Fredericton to a location near Hampton, where it would join up with the European & North American Railroad.
Construction began at Norton and proceeded to Chipman by 1888. The CRofNB did not build any farther.
The CRofNB was purchased by the New Brunswick Coal & Railway Company in 1903.
