TEXT: Intercolonial Railway of Canada, Office of the General Freight Agent, Moncton N.B. August 31st 1896

Edvice?? Dickie Esq.
Upper Stewiacke N.S.

Dear Sir,
I have your letter of 28th ??? with reference to car of bran moved from Brookfield to Graham Siding. The charge of $2.00 was made for the extra shunt as car was billed to Brookfield and left there and had to be moved. If it had been billed direct on Grahams Siding we would have left it there without any additional charge. I do not really see how we can refund you this amount.
Yours truly, <signed> J.J. Wallace

That is fascinating, Steve! You have several connections to the ICR.

Steve,
My great great grandfather was the ICR general locomotive foreman for many years. he joined the ICR in 1862 as a machinist, I think in Saint John, NB. His obit mentions he was assigned to the Phoenix Foundry & Locomotive Works under Geo. Fleming & Son for 1 year right after joining then lived in Moncton. Became foreman in 1872.
He moved to Point du Chene, NB in 1889 where he was Mechanical Foreman at that station.
He died in 1906. He was a native of Scotland born there in 1832.
His son A B MacHaffie (or Mchaffie) was also a general locomotive foreman.

The ICR connection also extends to my great grandfather Winslow Bolton who in 1771 was a section foreman and living in Devon, NB (across from Fredericton). I have a work book of his that details various construction projects with dimensions, lists of materials, weather comments, etc.
He moved to Norton Station after 1871 and died there of TB in 1897 in his 40s.

Any records exist to shed more light on this.

Steve C, without seeing the picture I'm not sure what it could be. There is a very famous picture of the Maritime Express that is often seen, with the train on an embankment. Can you take a picture or scan of it and email it to me?

I have an ICR frame with a pic (looks like a print of some kind) of the Ocean limited. The print looks very old, the only thing I could find on it is it might be from around 1904-1917. Do you have any info on this?

My GreatGrandfather was an employee of Intercolonial Railway....on his marriage document of Feb.1874 he is listed as a "FIreman" and in 1881 he is listed as Locomotive Engineer.
Do you have access, or knowledge of, the employee records, pay sheets, etc. of the Intercolonial Railway from 1870 to 1900??
I would appreciate any direction
