Cumberland Railway and Coal Company

Here are scans of railway documentation I personally own, or have scans of, relating to the Cumberland Railway and Coal Company Railway.

The railway was incorporated in 1883, and in its heyday, ran from a junction with the Intercolonial Railway at Springhill Junction to the port of Parrsboro, Nova Scotia on the Bay of Fundy.

The railway ran for many years. Once the export market for Springhill coal declined, the railway stopped running to Parrsboro, with the last train running on June 14, 1958. The 1958 “bump” that killed 74 miners in Springhill was the end of coal shipments for the railway, which limped on for a few more years until it ceased operation in 1962.
