INDEX THEBOYKOS

Heart's Door

The heart's door lies wide open
Inviting his approach
Ah, welcome, welcome indeed...
Come to add another one?

He walks down the silent halls
Searching for... something...
There's a slot right here...
I've been saving it just for you...

Voices call from the dark side of his life
Ancient pain striving to return
We have a wonderful selection...
Many reminders of love lost forever...

His nail traces a crack in the wall
A nick in the armor
Oh, don't worry about that...
It's sure to be fixed soon...

He stops to look at two new exhibits
Smiling at the first, grimacing at the next
Oh yes, she hurt you so...
A right vicious one, she was...

He smiles at her again
Giving her a mental hug in thanks
But she hurt you!
How can you smile?

And he wanders on, searching
Until he stops at the end of the hall
Ah, yes, this is the place...
Put her right in here...

His hands work the hammer and nail
Placing a sign
What's that say?
What are you doing?

He nods and smiles
And walks out the door
Hey, where are you going?
There's much more to see...

Such a simple message the sign bears
"Exhibit indefinitely postponed."
Hey, that's not funny!
Come back here, come back...

Written August 3, 1992. For Susan.

A considerably more upbeat poem than Heart's Museum, this was written after a string of reasonably successful relationships.
