Departure of a Lady

Bonne chance, fair lady;
May the winds of Change blow thee a gentle breeze.

Farewell, dear darling;
Alas! No more will you delight us with your presence; no more will we have the joy of your voice, the beauty of your face, the grace of your speech.

Fare thee well; may you be blessed, and bless those that you meet with your beauty.

Adieu.

Written November 12, 1985. For Val.

A friend of mine (Val), whom I had a terrible crush on, was moving away, so I composed this while fighting off sleep in my MATH 3333 class. I never gave it to her. The irony of it all is that she didn't move away. :)
