Aurora

Rays of light
Piercing a winter night's gloom;
Showing purple, then pink,
Brightening the somber dark.

A curtain of light
Sweeps across the sky,
Bringing joy, and awe,
Nature works her mysterious ways.

Fading away,
Almost too soon;
Leaving behind a memory
Of beauty, treasure beyond belief.

Written February 10, 1986.

I was walking from my house to a friend's house, and happened to glance up. This lovely aurora was covering half of the sky. I ended up walking most of the kilometer or two with my head tilted back - it's a wonder that I didn't walk into a ditch!
