There were a number of special events in New Brunswick in the past few years relating to VIA Rail:
On November 9 and 13, 2005, VIA ran a special Veteran's Train between Halifax and Montreal to bring veterans to and from the Rememberance Day ceremonies in Ottawa. The train consisted of three engines and thirty cars, the longest passenger train in the Maritimes since World War II.
In July 2005 the Ocean was detoured to run between Edmundston and Moncton due to derailments on the normal route.
At times VIA will run extra cars on the Ocean, usually to IRSI in Moncton for repairs.
