Saint John

Saint John is New Brunswick's largest city. It is an industrial city, and is New Brunswick's largest port. Please view my railfan's guide to Saint John.

Saint John has two major yards, CN's Island Yard (now leased by NB Southern), and NB Southern's yard in Saint John West. There is also a small yard at Bayshore. Saint John has no VIA service any more.

There are many rail customers in Saint John. Some ones I know of are:

  • Irving Pulp Mill, Reversing Falls
  • Irving Refinery, Saint John East
  • Irving Lubricants, Saint John East
  • Potasco, Saint John South
  • Esso oil tank farm, Saint John South
  • Port of Saint John, Saint John harbour
  • Praxair, Saint John East (2 cars/day)
  • Custom Fabricators
  • Ocean Steel, Saint John harbour

the section used for container traffic; some of the lower trackage leads to the automobile area.

The former Lantic Sugar refinery is visible in the background, right.

Saint John Port yard
The yard inside the Port perimeter. At the time of the picture (Dec 1 2002) there were
some flatcars and some NB Southern ballast cars in the yard. Trains serving the port serve
container, boxcar and autorack traffic.
