Acadian Railway Company - Peter SwireThe promoter of the Acadian Railway Company, Peter Swire, 50, is a long time resident of Hamilton (ON). A graduate of the School of Business at Queen’s University, he also has demonstrated proficiency in nation-wide CMA exams. Not counting his first exposure to trains with a combination freight and passenger HO set, his professional association with railways started in the early 1980’s. Over the years, Mr. Swire had accumulated one of the largest private holdings in the Canada Southern Railway Company. He eventually tendered his shares in the public company to a Penn Central takeover bid. Later in the 1980’s, Mr. Swire had been an advisor to two shortline railway companies operating in Ontario. The first was Trillium Railways’ Port Colborne operation which at the time was going through the complex process of incorporating under a Special Act. The second was a planned 48 mile long freight operation over the former CN Uxbridge subdivision with running rights over other CN lines. The railway company was shortly thereafter bought out by CN even before it acquired any track. Mr. Swire was a former officer and director of the Ontario Midwestern Railway Company. He was, for a brief period of time in the mid 1990’s, an officer and director of a NASDAQ listed railway holding company based in Florida. This is an unofficial publication and is not related in any way to the Acadian Railway Company. |
